The Electric City Hillbillies
"......Carolina is the place to have some fun! So They
loaded up the truck and moved to Anderson..."
Formerly of the Black Bottom Boys,
Wendell Austin has been picking and
singing for over 4 decades. As a young
man, Wendell sat at the knee of bluegrass
great Charlie Moore. Wenell's father knew
Charlie Moore. His dad would take
Wendell to see Charlie and while there
Charlie would take time out to show
Wendell runs, chords, and licks from his
songs. "Because of Charlie I learned the G
run and so much more." Wendell got
hooked on blugrass music! When the
other kids were out playing ball, Wendell
was watching the Martha White Flat and
Scruggs TV show, soaking up all he could!
He brings to the table a wealth of songs,
old and new. Always greeting new material
with enthusiasm, Wendell is not only a
tremendous talent, but a driving force for
the band to keep fresh and interesting.
Richard Green has been playing banjo
for over 35 years and he has enjoyed
many musical achievements. While
playing with The Heavens Echoes, he
contributed singing, songwriting as
well as bluegrass banjo to multiple CD
projects for Atteiram Records. Also
while with the Echoes, he performed at
venues which also featured legends
including Ralph Stanley, Jimmy Martin,
Bill Monroe,The Lewis Family, and the
Osborne Brothers and many others.
Never accepting limits in music,
Richard offers top notch banjo
(Scruggs style and Clawhammer),
beautiful harmony and a knowledge for
music and arrangements which brings
us to a high level of entertainment
value. Richard has studied under
banjo greats-Al Osteen (Who played
banjo for Charlie Moore and Jim and
Jesse), Two time World Champion
banjo player Charles Wood, bluegrass
and oldtime authority and writer for
Bluegrass Unlimited magazine (as well
as other publications) Bob
Buckingham, and Kirk Sutphin, protege
of the great Tommy Jarrell.
Fiddle player Jeanne Green was formerly
the bass player for the band. She started
with the guitar while in chiropractic college
in the mid eighties (She is a practicing
chiropractor in Greenville, S.C.). Having
played the fiddle since 2001, Jeanne
brings to the table a sound of old time and
bluegrass mixed. Under the tutelage of
regional fiddle master, Bob Buckingham
and other traditional music mentors
including "Chirps" Smith, Kenny Jackson
and others. Jeanne creates a spark of
interest to keep traditional fiddle tunes and
music alive through the band.
Kathy Boone, the bass player for the
band, has been playing this instument
for four years. Always having had an
interest in good music, Kathy exudes
enthusiasm for this love. Her constant
rhythm on her instrument has become a
mainstay and gives a basis for the
music to sit upon. (Or in our case, to
dance upon!) Always having a
willingness to learn, she shares a
desire for putting out music we can be
proud of.

Marshall Goers - Multi-Instrumentalist
Playing a wide variety of music—blues,
bluegrass, oldtime, folk, and rock- wasn’t
quite enough for Marshall Goers. So he took
an interest in playing a wide variety of
instruments, too. Although rooted by guitar
and mandolin, he is also comfortable with
harmonica, lap dulcimer, banjo, fiddle, and
even bouzouki in his hands.
He has recorded with Gingerthistle on
Grandad’s Porch; with the Piedmont String
Sawyers on Sawing through a Few Good
Pieces; has recorded a solo album Fresh
Start; and has recorded a CD with partner
Lucy Allen (currently on the SC Artist Roster).
